Steinbach RCMP are reporting that a 20-year-old Niverville woman was recently arrested and charged after trying to evade police at a location near Pansy, Manitoba.
On July 28, 2021 at approximately 9am, Steinbach RCMP Traffic Services initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 12 near Pansy.
The vehicle initially appeared to be pulling over but then attempted to evade police by driving through the ditch and onto a rural property. The suspect then drove into the bush, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Police noted that the vehicle had sustained extensive damage as a result.
The traffic member then pursued the suspect on foot and apprehended the female driver after a brief foot chase. As a result, 20-year-old Delilah Thurston of Niverville was arrested for flight from police.
Subsequent investigation revealed a quantity of stolen property, break-in instruments and drugs/drug paraphernalia within the unregistered vehicle which was using improper licence plates.
RCMP report that in addition to flight from police, Delilah Thurston has been charged with four counts of failing to comply, six counts of possession of stolen property, driving while suspended, possession of break-in instruments, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. She has been remanded in custody.
