The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is currently investigating an allegation of assault by an off-duty Winkler Police Service officer.
On September 13, 2021 RCMP reported an incident to the IIU that occurred on September 11. According to the notification, on September 11 Wasagaming RCMP received a report of an assault. Officers attended the residence and it was determined that the affected person had been assaulted by an off-duty police officer from the Winkler Police Service. The affected person was transported to Minnedosa Hospital for treatment.
The IIU civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.
