The Manitoba government is mailing employment and income assistance cheques for October early to avoid being delayed by a possible postal service disruption on Sept. 26.

The province has been advised that Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have reached a tentative agreement, averting the risk of a postal service disruption.

The Manitoba government has been advised the Canadian Union of Postal Workers issued a 72-hour notice of strike action that would take effect at 11:59pm on Sunday, August 29, 2016.

Manitobans are reminded that the province has arranged for government cheques and other essential mail to be available for pickup in anticipation of a potential postal strike.
