Manitoba teen drivers’ behaviours are at the forefront of road safety today with the launch of National Teen Driver Safety Week (October 18-24).

With an average of approximately 800 collisions reported on public roadways over the four-day September long weekend, Manitoba Public Insurance is urging drivers to avoid high-risk driving behaviours, like distracted driving, as they hit the road this weekend.

Steinbach RCMP have wrapped up four separate patrols as part of an initiative to crack down on at-risk driving behaviours within Steinbach and the local area.

Vehicles equipped with winter tires are in fewer crashes than vehicles without winter tires, according to a Manitoba Public Insurance report.

Motorcycle fatalities doubled in 2019 compared to the previous 10 year average, reinforcing the need for all road users to focus on safety when travelling on Manitoba roadways. Last year eight motorcyclists were killed, compared to four on average (2009-2018).

With a number of snowmobile trails in the province expected to open this month, STARS, Snowmobilers of Manitoba and Lifesaving Society Manitoba have come together to encourage the safe operation of snowmobiles this winter.
