Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development advises that conservation officers are continuing enforcement to protect Manitoba’s natural resources, including compliance checks for fisheries, addressing illegal hunting, and supporting wildfire prevention and suppression, and additional officers are now in the field.

Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development is recording a higher than usual number of black bear interaction calls in a number of areas around the province and Manitobans are reminded they need to be ‘Wildlife Smart’ in bear country.

Over the course of the summer, conservation officers have supported the wildfire suppression efforts but have also been involved in multiple situations where enforcement action was required to support the fire and travel restrictions imposed. To date, during this period of extreme fire risk, officers issued a total of 149 charges and 60 warnings under the Wildfires Act.

Manitoba conservation officers are reporting that an individual was recently arrested and charged, under The Wildfires Act for entering a designated area during a closed period without a travel permit.
