A Manitoba summer tradition continues with the province’s free family fishing and provincial park access weekend happening June 12 and 13.

As Manitobans prepare to enjoy the May long weekend, it is important to remember that anyone heading to provincial parks, campgrounds or cottages should continue to practise social distancing and follow the fundamentals of safety for COVID-19.

Reservations for Manitoba campgrounds, cabins and group-use areas will begin on April 5 with staggered dates offered to make it easier for outdoor enthusiasts to book sites at their favourite campgrounds.

Manitobans will be able to get outside and try their luck ice fishing at many of Manitoba’s world-class lakes and rivers during this year’s Winter Family Fishing Weekend, running from Saturday, Feb. 13, to Monday, Feb. 15.

Manitoba Conservation and Climate will again offer free entry to provincial parks throughout the month of February so Manitobans and visitors can take advantage of the many winter activities available in the parks.

In partnership with Trails Manitoba, the Manitoba government is investing $7 million to support the creation, maintenance and enhancement of active transportation trails across the province and within the city of Winnipeg.

Manitobans are encouraged to take advantage of free access to all provincial parks this weekend as part of the annual Canada’s Parks Day celebrations across the country.

Manitobans are able to enjoy free access to provincial parks this weekend and those wishing to fish may do so without acquiring a licence.

As Manitobans and visitors make their plans for the upcoming May long-weekend, the province is reminding those who are heading out to provincial parks, campgrounds, or their cottage to follow the advice of Manitoba’s chief public health officer and practise proper social distancing.
