New emergency medical services (EMS) stations totaling $3.8 million have opened in Crystal City and Portage la Prairie as part of Manitoba’s commitment to building a stronger service that meets the needs of residents in those communities and the broader Southern Health-Santé Sud region.

A new building will be constructed as part of a significant expansion at Boundary Trails Health Centre that will add new acute care inpatient beds and provide larger, more modern space for patient care programs to support the health needs of these growing communities well into the future.

Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer, announced that as of Monday, Nov. 9, the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region will move to Critical (red) on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System in order to halt COVID-19 transmission spread in the region.

Southern Health-Santé Sud has announced that Acute Care facilities in the region will not allow visitors at this time to reduce the health risk of COVID-19 in our communities.

The emergency department at the Ste. Anne Hospital will resume 24-hour service, seven days a week, said Jane Curtis, CEO of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Ground has been broken on a new 143-bed personal care home expansion in Steinbach that will ensure more seniors living in or near the community will have access to 24-hour supervision and nursing support when they need it.

Southern Health-Santé Sud has announced that BreastCheck’s mobile mammography vehicle will be in Steinbach from June 10 to July 5, 2019.

Security will be enhanced at Eden Mental Health Centre and Boundary Trails Health Centre following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Telestroke, a program that provides specialized emergency care to stroke patients in rural communities, has expanded to Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Shortly after announcing plans to build a 143-bed personal care home in Steinbach, the province is moving forward with construction of a similar 110-bed facility in Carman, Manitoba.
