RCMP and Lake Manitoba FN hockey game

RCMP and Lake Manitoba FN hockey game at the Lake Manitoba FN arena.

After a friendly challenge, RCMP and Lake Manitoba FN met for a hockey game in the spirit of good community policing.

It all began last November during a meeting between the RCMP Manitoba East District office and elected officials from the Lake Manitoba First Nations. In the spirit of good community policing and some good old fashion hockey rivalry, the officer in charge, Superintendent Scott Kolody, challenged Chief Barry Swan to a hockey game between area members and his community.

Ashern RCMP Detachment and a Lake Manitoba First Nation Counselor organized the event and on February 22, 2011, the game took place at the Lake Manitoba FN arena. RCMP members from Lundar, Ashern, Gypsumville, Fisher Branch, Selkirk, Manitoba East District office and Division HQ assembled and put up a good sweat.

It was a tight game but in the end, Lake Manitoba FN team won out 7 to 6. When asked about the loss, Sgt. Ron Corner said “I’m sure we’ll be reminded of this until next year’s game”.

Lots of laughs and a lot of fun were had by all! It looks like plans for a rematch will be forthcoming.
