RCMP have charged a woman for misleading the police and public by falsely reporting an assault.

Earlier this week, The Pas RCMP received a report of an attempted sexual assault on a 21-year-old female as she walked home from a local event in The Pas, Manitoba.

The investigation resulted in police obtaining detailed description of her attacker as well as a sketch of the suspect through a police sketch artist. As the investigation unfolded, police noted some inconsistencies in the story provided by the female victim. As a result, police conducted a further interview with the victim which resulted in her confessing to making the whole story up. The female confirmed that she was never attacked and is now apologetic for her behavior by misleading police and the public.

21-year-old Kylie Ann Beaton has been charged with public mischief and is set to appear in court on April 4, 2011.

Despite this being a false allegation, The Pas RCMP would like to thank the public for their support during this investigation which included several anonymous tips of possible suspects matching the description provided.
