The public will soon have a chance to voice their opinion in proposed ward changes within the RM of De Salaberry.
A few months ago, the RM of De Salaberry council hired Roger Bouvier of Municipal Solutions to review the structure of the municipalities ward system.
Just recently, Bouvier presented council with the results of the review of ward boundaries which consisted of two proposals that could significantly decrease the number of wards in the municipality.
The municipality currently consists of six wards and the proposals suggests a decrease to three wards or perhaps even two.
The municipality invites all residents to a public consultation meeting scheduled for March 10, at 8 p.m. in the municipal chambers.
Also, the third reading of the municipality’s Ward Restructuring By-law is expected to be read and signed on the same night.
The review was done at the request of council because current wards could be subject to a municipal board challenge since the actual number of residents in each are not equal.
Once accepted the new ward boundaries would be in place for the 2010 municipal elections.
The current ward system used by the municipality was first enacted in 1985.
