The RM of Piney is looking into solutions that will ensure that their fire department is working at the best of its ability.
At a recent special meeting of council, the municipality sat down to discuss several issues with the municipality’s fire department.
Reeve Marvin Havorka explained that the municipality’s emergency department is experiencing challenges with distance, manpower, and financial resources.
Some of the topics of discussion included the possibility of amalgamating their two departments into one central department.
The RM of Piney has fire halls in Sprague and Piney that are both manned by volunteers. There are 18 volunteer fire fighters in Piney and 14 in Sprague.
As part of ensuring that the department functions without stressing resources, the municipality cancelled a couple of fire agreements with local groups including the Moose Lake Cottage Association, Premier Peat Moss and FPM Peat Moss.
