On March 19, 2011, at about 10:30am, Thompson RCMP along with Thompson Fire and EMS were dispatched to a single snowmobile collision near Joey Lake approximately 50 km south of Thompson along Provincial Highway 6.
At the scene, RCMP and EMS found a 20-year-old critically injured. He was conveyed to Thompson General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
RCMP learned that the 20-year-old was out on a snowmobile ride with his 45-year-old father, on a designated trail near Joey Lake along Highway 6, when the victim hit a valley, lost control and became airborne.
RCMP report that the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in this collision. Alcohol is not considered a factor.
The investigation continues.
