A school in the Seine River School Division will participate in a pilot project of a new software program expected to benefit schools across Canada.

The software, which has been released by Sylvan Dell Publishing, is designed to excite children with a variety of tools to include audio books, interactive reading, and math skills.

Sylvan Dell Publishing company has created picture books that excite children’s imaginations which are artistically spectacular yet focus on the integration of math and science concepts in their on-line and picture books.

Arborgate School was chosen as the divisional pilot site to determine whether the valuable on-line resource will assist teachers and students to integrate literacy, numeracy and literacy with ICT into their classroom instruction.

Debra Radi, Seine River School Divisions Assistant Superintendent is excited that the division is utilizing this software.

“We will use our divisional pilot process, along with the support of our Software and Instructional Support Consultants, to determine the effectiveness of this on-line resource in the hopes that it will be a valuable resource for all of our divisional elementary schools,” stated Radi.

Halfway through the school year the materials were well received by students and staff.

“Arborgate School is excited to have this opportunity to pilot the Sylvan Dell materials,” added Arborgate School principal Teresa Yestrau. “The teachers are already vying for the projectors and SmartBoards so they can bring the excitement right to their students.”

When students access the computer lab many more programs open up, all of which tie directly to a multitude of learning outcomes across subject areas.

There are also online resources available to parents to help their children learn at home through audio books, interactive reading, math quizzes and crafts.
