Vic Toews, Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Hon. James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, announced funding of over $74,000 for 6 festivals celebrating local arts and culture.
The funding was made available for St. Pierre-Jolys, Richer, Ste. Agathe, Lac Du Bonnet and St. Joseph through the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program “Canadians have every reason to be proud of their communities and to celebrate their collective sense of belonging to a unique place in this country.” said Minister Toews. “Our Government wants to partner with communities and encourage the stories and the celebrations.”
“Our Government is proud to support these festivals,” said Minister Moore. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”
In September 2007, the Government of Canada announced the new Building Communities through Arts and Heritage (BCAH) program to provide Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
