A Brandon man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with an assault incident that occurred earlier this week.

On March 31, 2011, at about 12:30am, Prairie Mountain Area Members were dispatched to an assault at a residence in Roblin. RCMP responded and found the victim bleeding and requested local EMS attend. The victim was conveyed to Roblin District Health Centre by ambulance with significant non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was identified as Garfield Joseph Chartrand and had already left the residence.

RCMP learned that the suspect, while in the residence, seriously assaulted the 39-year-old male resident.

34-year-old Garfield Joseph Chartrand of Brandon was arrested in the early hours of March 31 and has since been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and mischief. Chartrand was remanded into custody to appear in Dauphin Court on April, 4, 2011.

RCMP report that the victim is no longer in hospital.
