On April 8, 2011, just before 10:30am, Morris RCMP as well as local fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene of a reported explosion, 5 miles west of Morris, Manitoba.
Investigation revealed that a vacant, unused chicken barn had been completely destroyed due to an explosion. The building was reported to be propane heated and had electrical service.
The building is said to be approximately 5000 square feet or less and has been out of service for a number of years.
There were no people or chickens in the barn at the time of the explosion and no injuries reported.
The building is said to be valued at less than $20,000. The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner has attended to assist with the investigation, however, at this time there is nothing to indicate that the explosion was suspicious in nature.
Police continue to investigate.
