On April 25, 2011, at about 5:50am, Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP Detachment along with local Fire Officials responded to two vacant house trailers fires, one of which was undergoing renovations and a shed fire at a different location in Crane River FN.
RCMP began an investigation, assisted by the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner and determined that the fires were deliberately set.
The investigation continued with the assistance of a local Band Constable and led to a local group of five male youths ranging in ages of 14 to 16-years-old.
They have since been arrested, charged and are facing arson charges. Four remain in custody pending a court appearance on April 28, 2011, in Dauphin. A 15-year-old was released and will be making a court appearance on May 11 also in Dauphin.
The total damage has been pegged to nearly $260,000. No one was in the house trailers and the shed at the time of the fires and no one was hurt.
The investigation continues.
