As he helped volunteers clean up following an extremely well-attended community barbeque hosted by the Vic Toews campaign, the Conservative Candidate for Provencher expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received over the course of the 2011 election campaign.
“Whether it has been at the door, at community events, or at tonight’s bbq which was attended by over 1,000 people, the response I have received from voters has been incredible,” said Toews. “It is clear that voters recognize the Conservative Government’s strong record of support for hard-working Canadian families, particularly in contrast to the Liberal-NDP-Bloc coaltion’s high-tax agenda.”
Toews noted that the Conservative’s “Here For Canada” platform includes a number of initiatives that appear to be resonating with voters, including:
• A low-tax plan for jobs and economic growth to complete the economic recovery, create jobs now and lay a strong foundation for long-term economic growth which includes prudent, low-tax measures to help small businesses hire new employees and incentives to encourage manufacturers to invest in new machinery;
• A plan to continue lowering taxes on Canadian families and provide support to seniors, including an increase to the Guaranteed Income Supplement for the poorest and most vulnerable seniors; establishing a new $2,000 Family Caregiver Tax Credit to help families cover the cost of caring for a sick or aging relative; and amending section 718.2 of the Criminal Code to add vulnerability due to age to the list of aggravating factors to be considered by courts when sentencing criminals who commit offences against seniors;
• A low-tax plan to eliminate the deficit without raising taxes or reducing transfer payments to the provinces and territories for health care, education and other social services, thereby providing stable, predictable funding to the provinces and territories and ensuring that all Canadians have access to high-quality health care regardless of their ability to pay;
• A plan to keep Canada’s communities and streets safe that puts victims and pubilc safety first. This approach includes the commitment that a majority Conservative Government will bundle the key crime reduction bills into comprehensive legislation, and pass them within the new Parliament’s first 100 days.
“The choice for Canadians is clear,” said Toews. “A stable Conservative Government led by Prime Minister Stephen Harper committed to focusing on the priorities of Canadians, keeping taxes low, creating jobs, and completing the country’s economic recovery, OR a Liberal-NDP-Bloc coalition that will pursue a high-tax agenda that will stall the recovery, kill jobs and set back the financial security of Canadian families. I think the unprecedented attendance at our event tonight demonstrates that the residents of Provencher know which direction they prefer,” concluded Toews.
