On May 5, 2011, at about 6:30pm, St. Pierre RCMP as well as local Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene of a fatal collision in the RM of Hanover involving a motorcycle and an automobile.
The collision occurred at the intersection of PR 311 and Road 20 East, between Highway 59 and the Town of Niverville.
Initial investigation indicates that a motorcycle, traveling westbound on PR 311, collided with the passenger side of a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer that was crossing PR 311 northbound on Road 20 East. The intersection is controlled by a stop sign.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 32-year-old man from Niverville, Manitoba, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
There were four occupants in the blazer, an 18-year-old driver and three passengers, two aged 18 and one aged 16. All occupants are from Niverville, Manitoba, none of which were reported to be injured.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation.
There were no other vehicles or persons reported to be involved in this collision.
The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Police continue to investigate.
