CWB directors will be reporting to farmers in a series of accountability meetings to be held in 20 communities across the Prairies in March.

At the annual Farmer Forums, producers get firsthand information about CWB performance and financial results for the previous crop year, share new ideas and provide input on CWB policies and strategic direction. The meetings take place between March 2 and 19.

“As directors, these forums provide us with the opportunity to meet with different producers, answer their questions and hear their ideas and suggestions for moving the CWB forward,” said Larry Hill, chair of the CWB’s farmer-controlled board of directors. “We’ve been 10 years now with elected directors and there have been a lot of changes in that period of time. This is a chance for producers to let us know if and how these changes have worked for their businesses.”

This year marks a decade since producers first took direct ownership of the CWB. In 1999, the first board of directors, consisting two thirds of elected farmers, took over governance of the CWB, a role that had previously been carried out government-appointed commissioners. Other legislative changes were made to ensure farmers set the overall direction of the CWB.
