On May 11, 2011, at about 7pm, RCMP Oakbank/Beausejour and East St. Paul Detachments responded to a 911 call of an attempted armed home invasion in the RM of Springfield near Anola.
RCMP report that three males approached a residence carrying a firearm and attempted to kick the door in to gain entry. The homeowner was able to keep the door shut all the while yelling at his wife this was a home invasion. This appeared to have spooked the trio who fled in a white 1999 Toyota Tercel.
Within minutes, responding members from the Oakbank Detachment intercepted the suspect vehicle heading towards Winnipeg onĀ Provincial Trunk Highway 15. The driver, an adult male from Winnipeg, was arrested without incident, while the other two occupants fled on foot into a wooded area. With the assistance of the East District Police Service Dog, one of the male suspects, also an adult from Winnipeg, was apprehended a short time later.
The third suspect is still at large.
The two remaining suspects are in police custody.
The investigation to continue.
