The Manitoba Curling Association is very pleased to announce that the community of Steinbach has been selected to host the 2010 Safeway Championship. The 2010 Safeway Championship will take place from February 10-14, 2010 at the T.G. Smith Centre in Steinbach. The Safeway Championship will see Manitoba’s best men take the ice to compete to be Manitoba’s representative at the 2010 Tim Horton’s Brier.
Wayne Pauls Co-chair commented “The City of Steinbach and the Host Committee were thrilled with the 2006 Safeway Championship, which was the City’s first ever chance to showcase that caliber of curling to the local fans. The local support was amazing: the business community got on board as sponsors, over 350 volunteers participated, and the stands were filled for almost every draw, sometimes exceeding 1600 spectators. We are confident that the curlers will experience a better event in 2010, and are excited about the prospect of hosting the Championship again.”
“Steinbach has proven to be a great host in the past and we look forward to working with them on the 2010 Safeway Championship. We are confident that they will provide competitors, fans and sponsors with a first class sporting event.” Commented Shane Ray, Executive Director of the Manitoba Curling Association
This will be the second time that the Safeway Championship has been held in Steinbach, the first being in 2006. 32 teams will compete for the right to wear the Purple Hearts at the 2010 Tim Horton’s Brier, March 6-14 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
