On May 26, 2011, at 3:30pm, RCMP Lundar and Ashern Detachments along with area EMS were dispatched to a fatal head-on collision on Highway 6, one kilometre north of Lundar.
At present, it has been established that a car, driven by an adult male driver, resident of Little Saskatchewan FN, was southbound on Highway 6 when for reasons yet to be determined, crossed the center line and collided with a northbound school bus, driven by a male driver from Lake Manitoba FN.
The male driver also had three passengers on board of the vehicle, a 53-year-old woman from Little Saskatchewan FN, a 40-year-old woman from Roseau River FN and a female infant also from Roseau River FN were on board of the vehicle at the time of the crash. All four perished in the collision. The school bus was carrying 16 children and was heading home from school in Lundar to Lake Manitoba FN.
All the children and the bus driver were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
At present, RCMP Lundar Detachment assisted by an RCMP Forensic Reconstructionist continue to investigate what led to this crash.
