It has been one of the most talked about issues in Steinbach and surrounding areas in recent years, affordable assisted living for seniors. The City is working to provide incentive for developers to build more housing for seniors, and one way to encourage development is by providing grants.
This week, Bridgepark Manor Incorporate (BMI), chaired by Eric Peters, received a cheque for $74,200 from the City of Steinbach; an amount equal to the development fee for the three storey apartment building. As well, the Bridgepark Manor project has also received support from the Province of Manitoba and the Government of Canada in the form of a $3,060,000 forgivable loan and $2,148,000 loan guarantee, respectively.
Not only do we appreciate the Citys financial support in this project, said BMI Chairman, Eric Peters, but so do families in Steinbach and surrounding areas. The City, together with the federal and provincial governments, has made this project a reality.
It is exciting to see more assisted living housing for our senior citizens becoming a reality in Steinbach, said Mayor Chris Goertzen. The project, once complete, will serve our citizens well for many years and with the welcomed help of the other two levels of government we have been able to achieve this.
Bridgepark Manor will be comprised of 52 units, plus one guest suite and will include on-site staff providing meals, housekeeping, recreation / social activities, and security. All units have been designed to be fully accessible for seniors with mobility limitations. It is anticipated that Bridgepark Manor will be ready for residents by late fall 2011.
