The Pas RCMP are requesting public assistance in locating a boater that went missing earlier this week.

On May 30, 2011, at approximately 3pm, 47-year-old Kevin Smith left his home, located along the Carrot River in The Pas, with his boat and has not returned home since.

Members of The Pas RCMP, The Pas Fire Department, volunteers from Ducks Unlimited and CASARA have been searching the river systems since Smith was reported missing, to no avail.

Smith’s boat is described as a 14′ red Lund boat with a 20 Yamaha tiller motor and his direction of travel was not noted when he departed.

If anyone has seen Smith or a boat matching this description in The Pas area,  please contact The Pas RCMP at (204)627-6200.

Update 06/01/11 11:47am

After an extensive search on June 1, at approximately 10am, Kevin Smith was located on the Saskatchewan River in good health. Smith had been lost in a nearby Lake off of the Saskatchewan River and could not find his way out due to the heavy winds the days prior. He realized that he was being searched for and did not panic while making sound judgement to remain in one place and find shelter. Smith ultimately made his way back to the Saskatchewan River and was enroute back to The Pas when he was located.
