The Province of Manitoba is contributing $1.8 million to assist with the establishment of the new Tim Horton Children’s Foundation youth leadership camp near Sylvia Lake in Whiteshell Provincial Park. This announcement was made by Premier Greg Selinger.
“I am proud that Manitoba will soon be home to the seventh Tim Hortons camp where young people from all walks of life will have a chance to learn and have fun in Manitoba’s beautiful backyard,” Selinger said today on Tim Hortons Camp Day. “Our government is pleased to support the establishment of this camp that will enrich the lives of countless disadvantaged young people in the years to come.”
The camp will offer underprivileged youth opportunities to learn and explore through challenging educational and environmental programs, as well as have a positive, outdoor experience in the beautiful Whiteshell Provincial Park, said the premier.
Manitoba’s contribution to the project totals $1.8 million and includes construction of a road to the camp site and installation of MTS and hydro services. The Tim Horton Children’s Foundation has been granted an Environment Act licence for the camp and road construction is anticipated to begin later this year. The total cost of the camp is estimated to be $12 million.
“Our province looks forward to a strong partnership with Tim Hortons to help deserving young people gain valuable life skills and leadership experience,” said Selinger.
“We are thrilled to have this announcement made today, Tim Hortons Camp Day, as it highlights Manitobans’ contributions toward positive change in a child’s life,” said Bill Moir, president, Tim Horton Children’s Foundation/chief brand and marketing officer, Tim Hortons.
The Tim Horton Children’s Foundation is expected to begin construction on the camp in the spring of 2012 and it is hoped it will be ready to open in the summer of 2013.
