The summer Family Fishing Weekend will be held June 11 and 12 this year, Water Stewardship Minister Christine Melnick announced.

“Manitobans and visitors to our province will have the opportunity to enjoy our recreational fisheries free of charge and take advantage of our great outdoors,” said Melnick.  “This is a great opportunity to spend a weekend with family and friends and explore Manitoba’s abundant fisheries throughout the province.”

For this weekend only, anglers will be able to fish without a provincial licence, except in federal parks where a federal licence will still be required.

Anglers will be allowed to keep up to a conservation limit of four walleye/sauger, four pike, two smallmouth bass, two stocked trout, one channel catfish and one lake trout.  Limits for other species remain the same as those for a regular licence.

Anglers are asked to review the 2011 Manitoba Anglers’ Guide for regulations pertaining to specific lake limits and sizes.  A copy of the 2011 guide is available at www.manitobafisheries.com.
