On June 9, 2011, at about 5:30pm, Wabowden RCMP Detachment were advised of a deceased female found in the Community of Wabowden.
RCMP attended the scene and found the remains of a recently deceased female. Her death is considered suspicious in nature.
RCMP report that while the identity of the deceased is suspected by police, positive identification will not be confirmed until a post mortem has been completed.
The post mortem is scheduled to be performed in Winnipeg.
Update
An autopsy was conducted on June 11, 2011, in Winnipeg and the deceased has been positively identified as 14-year-old Heather Mallett of Wabowden, Manitoba. Heather Mallett was reported missing to the RCMP early on June 9 after she had not returned home.
Mallett’s death is being treated as a homicide. The cause of her death is being withheld. Homicide investigators from the RCMP Serious Crime Unit along with a number of support Units are currently assisting in the investigation.
