An RCMP member is facing weapons related charges after an internal investigation began last August due to concerns about inappropriate social network postings.
In August, 2010, an internal investigation was commenced over concerns raised with respect to inappropriate social network postings by a regular member of the RCMP stationed at the Nelson House Detachment.
On June 9, 2011, following an investigation conducted by the RCMP Major Crime Unit and recommendations from the Department of Justice, RCMP member James Kenney is facing charges which include two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, one count of unlawful possession of firearms and two counts of transporting a restricted firearm without authority.
On June 13, 2011, James Kenney was served a summons to attend Court in Thompson on July 29, 2011.
Kenney has been placed on administrative duties pending an internal review. The alleged offences were not committed during the course of his duty. He has a little over 5 years of service with the RCMP and holds the rank of Constable. He has since been transferred to the RCMP East District.
