Just before 8pm on Jun 19, 2011, officers from the Dauphin Municipal RCMP detachment received a report of a 2 vehicle collision that occurred on 2nd Avenue NE in Dauphin.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene without exchanging particulars with the driver of the vehicle that was hit. Witnesses to the collision provided police with the direction of travel of the suspect vehicle and officers were able to stop it on 4th Avenue SW. The driver was found to be heavily intoxicated and was arrested.
Investigators learned that following the collision, the vehicle had gone through a number of intersections without stopping for red lights or stop signs before being stopped. There were 2 unrestrained children, ages 1 and 3 years, in the vehicle at the time.
RCMP report that there were no injuries.
35-year-old Ivy Lana Leask of Swan River has been charged with a number of criminal offences including impaired driving, driving while disqualified and failing to provide a breath sample.
