On June 19, 2011, at about 5pm, Virden RCMP were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision involving a semi-trailer in the town of Elkhorn.

Police attended the scene and found that a semi-trailer had attempted to negotiate a tight corner. The trailer had been dragged through the ditch and became stuck, blocking the roadway.

The driver of the semi, a 44-year-old man from Lefroy, Ontario, was exhibiting signs of impairment. He was arrested for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle and later provided a breath sample that was above the legal limit.

The driver has been charged with impaired care and control of a motor vehicle, and care and control of a motor vehicle over 80 mg%. He has been released from custody, and is scheduled to appear in Virden Provincial Court on August 26, 2011.

There were no injuries as a result of this collision. The truck and trailer have been impounded.

Elkhorn is located on the Trans Canada Highway 10 km east of the Saskatchewan border.

Remember, impaired driving is completely preventable. If you see an impaired driver, pull over and call 911.
