On July 5, 2011, at 2:30pm, Swan River RCMP, Bowsman Fire Department and Parkland EMS responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 268, approximately 45 kms north east of Swan River.

Police say that an all-terrain utility vehicle crossing the highway collided with a southbound van.

The lone occupant of the all-terrain vehicle and three occupants of the van were all transported to the Swan River Valley Hospital. The 14-year-old male driver of the all-terrain vehicle was pronounced deceased at the hospital and was from the RM of Minitonas. The occupants of the van were treated for minor injuries and released from hospital.

The deceased name is not being released.

Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor and RCMP report that the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

RCMP Swan River Detachment continue to investigate with the assistance of the RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst.
