Two Flin Flon residents are facing drug related charges after fire fighters discovered a grow-op while extinguishing a house fire.
On June 26, 2011, at about 5:30am, Flin Flon RCMP Detachment were called to a car fire on Green Street in Flin Flon. Upon arrival it was noted that a house was also on fire. The local fire department responded and extinguished the fire which was contained to the home and a vehicle parked in the yard. The male and female tenants of the residence were home at the time of the fire and awoke in time to escape the fire. The female resident was unhurt but the male suffered minor injuries.
While extinguishing the fire, fire fighters discovered a marijuana grow operation inside the home and police were notified.
Police seized 64 marijuana plants as well as a quantity of marijuana that had already been harvested. The estimated street value of the marijuana seized is $65,000.
50-year-old Frank Robillard and Brenda Ploeg of Flin Flon have been charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and has been deemed suspicious in nature.
