In conjunction with Manitoba Public Insurance, Central Plains RCMP were out this past weekend conducting a traffic enforcement initiative.
The purpose of this initiative was to ensure and maintain the safety of our roadways by concentrating on offences such as speeding, impairment, seatbelts and cell phones as well as other provincial and federal offences.
Over a two day period, 114 charges under the Highway Traffic Act were issued. The majority of these offences were speeding. The offence notice issued with the highest speed was to a driver traveling near MacGregor at 169 km in a 100 zone. This came with a fine of $927.25.
Another vehicle was found traveling near MacGregor at 144 km/hr. The driver received an offence notice with a fine of $609.25. Less than half an hour later, the same vehicle was caught near Portage la Prairie traveling 125 km/hr. The driver then received an offence notice with a fine of $368.00.
Central Plains RCMP will be out on the roadways conducting further traffic enforcement throughout the summer.
Police are reminding motorists to be mindful of their surroundings and follow the rules of the road while they are out enjoying the summer.
