RCMP report that the 2011 Folk Festival, held at Birds Hill Provincial Park this past July 6 to 10, resulted in numerous charges.
RCMP Beausejour and Oakbank Detachments report that the night prior to the Folk Festival kick-off resulted in no issues with parking on Highways 206 and 59 overnight.
Criminal activity during the festival was as follows:
Provincial Statute Violations – 11 individuals were lodged under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act and 16 tickets were issued for a variety of offences under the Highway Traffic Act and the Liquor Control Act.
Criminal Code of Canada – 2 individuals were charged for impaired driving, one person was charged for breach of undertaking and one person was charged for obstruction of a police officer (by fleeing).
Controlled Drugs and Substances Act – 7 adult individuals were charged under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act for 11 counts of trafficking. Charges stem from the seizure of various amounts of cocaine, DMT (acid), psilocybin and several forms of ecstasy. One small amount of marijuana was also seized, however, no charges were laid in connection with the seizure.
