On July 14, 2011, at 12:15am, Carman Area RCMP along with fire and ambulance were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle collision at the corner of Highway 3 and 23 in the RM of Roland.
Investigation revealed that the westbound semi-truck, turning north onto Highway 3, was rear-ended by a 2001 GMC 1500 pick-up truck operated by a 50-year-old male from Carman. Also in the rear passenger compartment of his extended cab truck was his 3-year-old daughter who was unharmed. The driver, who’s name is not being released by RCMP, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The lone male driver of the semi was unharmed.
Alcohol, weather or road conditions are not considered contributing factors. RCMP report that both occupants of the pick-up truck were wearing seatbelts and the child was properly restrained.
The RCMP continue their investigation with the assistance of RCMP Traffic Collision Reconstructionist.
