Steinbach’s 2011 projects are progressing nicely this summer and a couple of them will be completed within the next two weeks.
Reimer Avenue – Watermain and Sewer Renewal and Road Reconstruction
In the past six weeks, Reimer Avenue has seen extensive progress, but there is still a considerable amount of work to complete. The sewer main between Henry Street and the east side of Spruce Crescent has been replaced, as well was the watermain between Spruce Crescent and the west leg of Pine Crescent. The utilities have completed their work installing new cables and gas lines, and full roadway excavation began this week. The road work is being completed in two sections so as to allow residents in the area as much access to their homes as possible. Next steps include the laying of gravel, concrete work for sidewalk and curbing, asphalting, and landscaping. The project is expected to be complete in August.
Wastewater Lagoon Expansion
The new cells of the lagoon are now complete and the cosmetic work of seeding and fencing has begun. Manitoba Conservation will send technicians out to conduct quality control testing the first week in August to ensure the cells meet provincial standards. The project will be completed by the end of August.
Landfill Expansion
The basic shaping of the Landfill’s new retention and sedimentation ponds has been completed. Currently, clay material from the City’s lagoon site is being used to line the bottoms of these two ponds, as well as to construct a keyway containment seal to hold in liquids from the waste disposal cells. It is anticipated that this work will be completed by the end of August. Manitoba Conservation will send technicians out to conduct quality control testing the second week in August to ensure the clay liners in the ponds meet provincial standards. The anticipated completion date for the expansion is September 2011.
Deerfield Walkway
About 80 percent of the Deerfield Walkway is now complete, with connections by Hespeler Street North and Brighton Lane being finished next week. Half of the light bases have been installed, with cabling set to begin this week. All the lights should be installed and operational by the end of next week and then landscaping will commence.
Asphalt Overlays
Asphalt overlay and concrete work on Willow Crescent is now complete. On Chapel Drive, the concrete work is now complete, and the road will be grinded down and new asphalt put down next week. After the new asphalt has been laid, boulevard grading and sodding will be completed.
Residential Developments
Laing Gate and Slater Place, part of Clearspring Greens (Phase four) located in the city’s north end, now has underground sewer infrastructure in place and is waiting for the location of utilities to be determined before proceeding with road construction.
Mooney Avenue and Ironwood Place developments are now complete.
