In the early morning hours of February 21, 2009, a 19-year-old man was located in Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) suffering from several stab wounds and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
A second man, age 18, was located later that same morning in the same vicinity and he was found to be suffering from serious injuries that also required medical treatment. Both males were treated and subsequently released from The Pas Health Complex. Both are from the Community of OCN.
Investigation revealed that both males were assaulted at a residence by the same suspects.
On February 24, 2009, The Pas RCMP in conjunction with the Opaskwayak Cree Nation RCMP arrested a 16-year-old teenage girl and resident of OCN in connection with the two incidents. She is being held in custody and will be facing a charge of Attempted Murder. Her first appearance is expected to be in The Pas Provincial Court on February 26, 2009.
The Pas RCMP, Opaskwayak Cree Nation RCMP along with the Thompson RCMP Major Crime Unit are attempting to identify the second suspect.
