Poultry barn fire near Manitou, Manitoba.
On July 22, 2011 shortly after 3pm, RCMP Manitou Detachment along with fire fighters from Manitou, La Riviere and Darlingford, responded to a poultry barn fire near Manitou.
The barn was located on Highway 3, near the Town of Manitou, in the RM of Pembina.
RCMP report that a passerby noticed smoke coming from the building and contacted 911.
The barn was reported to contain approximately 12,000 chickens. There were no injuries reported as no one was in the barn at the time of the fire.
Police say that early estimates of damages are pegged at $500,000. The barn is considered a total loss.
RCMP and the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to investigate, however, the fire is not considered suspicious in nature.
