On July 26, 2011, at about 10:30pm, RCMP members received a call of a residential fire in the community of Berens River FN.
Local residents were able to extinguish the fire using the water truck.
RCMP Berens members with the assistance of the Manitoba Officer of the Fire Commissioner were on scene to investigate. RCMP report that the homeowner, a 52-year-old man, escaped the fire but has since been medivaced to Winnipeg. He is listed in stable condition.
Police say the cause of the fire remains under investigation and is considered suspicious in nature. Damage estimates are not available. However, the residence is reported has having extensive smoke damage.
The investigation continues.
