On August 8, 2011, at approximately 5:45pm, Selkirk RCMP members were dispatched to a collision between an East Selkirk fire truck and a passenger vehicle on Highway 59 near PR 212 in the RM of St. Clements.
Investigation has determined that the fire truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 212 while responding to a report of a vehicle fire. As the emergency vehicle attempted to cross Highway 59, it collided with the drivers side of a northbound Chevrolet Impala.
The Chevrolet Impala was being operated by a 69-year-old male from West St. Paul, Manitoba. He was taken to hospital with what was initially believed to be potentially life threatening injuries. The only other occupant in the vehicle was also transported to hospital, but with non-life threatening injuries. It has since been determined that the male driver has been upgraded to stable condition.
The lone passenger in the fire truck was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the fire truck was uninjured.
Weather is not considered to be a factor in this incident.
