In the early morning hours of August 9, 2011, investigators from the RCMP Winnipeg Drug Section, RCMP Ste Rose Detachment, RCMP West District and the RCMP Emergency Response Team executed a CDSA (Controlled Drugs and Substance Act) search warrant at a rural property near St. Amelie in the RM of Ste. Rose.
While executing the search warrant, officers located a large scale marijuana grow operation. There were six 2000 square foot green houses, as well as two more under construction.
RCMP officers seized approximately 2,871 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of about 2.9 million dollars.
Three adult males were arrested at the location and are facing charges of production of a controlled substance.
This is regarded to be a significant commercial operation. Based on the sheer magnitude and sophistication of the grow operation, it is believed at this time that those involved have ties to organized crime.
Police continue to investigate.
