On August 11, 2011, at approximately 11pm, an off-duty RCMP officer on an evening walk heard a female scream for help in the alley behind Fischer Avenue between the MPI and MMF buildings.

The officer immediately investigated and located a male sexually assaulting a female victim. The off-duty officer identified himself as an RCMP officer. The male stopped his actions and tried to flee but was apprehended by the off-duty officer. Several citizens assisted the officer with restraining the male suspect pending the arrival of on-duty members.

The male, a 41-year-old resident of Moose Lake, is currently in custody and facing charges of sexual assault, uttering threats and resisting arrest.

The investigation is still continuing.
