Manitoba Conservation advises that, due to localized rain, the ban on campfires has been relaxed at Birds Hill Provincial Park. Campfires will now be allowed in approved fire pits from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. daily. Travel restrictions on trails at Birds Hill Provincial Park remain in effect at this time.
The eastern area of the province remains very dry and the potential for fires is high. In these conditions, winds can push flames rapidly, igniting large areas of land and spreading to forests. Due to these conditions, the fire ban, including campfires, continues in the eastern region of the province. Propane and gas appliances can still be used with caution.
The eastern region includes the areas from the Manitoba border in the south to Bissett and Hollow Water in the north, east of La Broquerie, Richer and the Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation and along the eastern edge of Lake Winnipeg to the Ontario border. This includes Whiteshell Provincial Park, the North-West Angle Provincial Forest, Grand Beach Provincial Park, Nopiming Provincial Park and Sandilands Provincial Forest.
Anyone living, working, camping or travelling through these areas is advised to use extreme caution.
Fires can be reported to Manitoba Conservation by calling toll-free 1-800-782-0076. For further information on the ban, contact the local Manitoba Conservation District Office or the fire ban information line at 204-345-1444.
