The Honourable Vic Toews, Regional Minister for Manitoba and Member of Parliament for Provencher has issued a statement today regarding the passing of NDP Leader Jack Layton.
“It was with great sadness that I learned today of the passing of Jack Layton – Leader of the Federal New Democratic Party of Canada.
Jack battled cancer heroically, utilizing in his personal fight many of the characteristics he had developed as a Parliamentarian and seasoned campaigner; commitment, bravery and tenaciousness.
While Jack was not victorious in his battle with cancer, his continued commitment to public service in the face of serious illness both touched and inspired Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to his wife Olivia as well as to his family, friends and colleagues across Canada.”
