On August 23, 2011, at about 8:30pm, Stonewall RCMP as well as local Fire and Ambulance services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal two vehicle collision on Highway 6 near Grosse Isle.
Initial investigation indicates a 2004 Honda Civic was northbound when it was involved in a head-on collision with a southbound 2009 Volvo semi-trailer. The Honda was completely consumed by fire.
Witness reports indicate that the Honda had crossed the center dividing line and was northbound in the southbound lanes at the time of the collision.
The driver and lone occupant of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deceased has been tentatively identified as a 25-year-old woman from Winnipeg.
The driver of the semi was not reported to have suffered any serious injuries.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation. The highway was closed for several hours.
Police continue to investigate.
