On August 25, 2011, just before 11am, Central Plains RCMP, as well as Portage la Prairie Fire Department and Portage EMS responded to a collision involving a semi-truck and a car on Highway 13 just south of Oakville, Manitoba.

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation and Provincial Environment Officers also attended to assist.

Investigation revealed that a semi-truck, hauling potatoes, was traveling south on Highway 13 when it collided with a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis which was backing out of a private driveway. The semi-truck ended up in the ditch after the collision.

RCMP report that the 87-year-old male driver, who was the lone occupant of the Grand Marquis, was transported to hospital with what was reported to be undetermined, non life threatening injuries.

Diesel fuel from the semi truck spilled out of the fuel tank onto the roadway and into the ditch. Both north and southbound traffic has been rerouted in order for the fuel to be cleaned up.

Police continue to investigate.
