On September 6, 2011, in the early evening, Virden RCMP as well as local Fire and EMS attended the scene of a vehicle fire on the Trans Canada Highway approximately 4 km east of Elkhorn, Manitoba.
RCMP report that a double tanker filled with diesel fuel was on fire in the eastbound lanes. The driver of the tanker had pulled to the shoulder and escaped the vehicle before fire engulfed the truck and trailers.
Both east and westbound lanes had been closed to traffic for about six and a half hours while emergency personnel worked to control the transport truck fire.
There were no injuries reported and police continue to investigate.
