Manitoba RCMP conducted several checkstops over the September long weekend beginning on Friday, September 2 and running through Monday, September 5. Several thousand vehicles were stopped over this period, including Over 3000 vehicles stopped on Highway 6.

There were two traffic related fatalities during this period, one in the Blue Hills area and one in the community of Norway House. This brings the total of traffic related fatalities to 77 for the year to date. There were 15 people charged with impaired driving, driving over .08 or refusal. There were also two charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle as well as 34 Liquor Control Act offences and 128 charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

RCMP will continue to conduct roving patrols of Manitoba Highways throughout the coming months. Motorists are reminded to use caution in school zones and construction areas.
