On October 2, 2011, just before 4am, Westman RCMP were dispatched to the Melita Hospital in response to a complaint of an adult male with stab wounds.
Police attended and determined that the victim, a 22-year-old man from Melita, Manitoba, had been at a house party in the town of Melita when an altercation broke out between the victim and an unknown male. During the altercation the victim was stabbed.
The victim was treated for his wounds at the Melita hospital. His injuries are considered non life-threatening.
RCMP investigators later located and arrested a 27-year-old man from Grande Prairie, Alberta, who was working at a nearby oil field project. He is facing charges of aggravated assault and breaching the conditions of an undertaking.
The accused has been released from police custody and will be scheduled to appear at a later date in Virden Provincial Court.
Police continue to investigate.
